SAMY VELLU: RETURN AND MIED AND MIC LINKED COMPANIES BACK TO MIC!!!

KUALA LUMPUR: Three members of MIC’s education arm, the Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED), today obtained an interim injunction to stop the cash-rich MIED from admitting new members into its ranks.

MIC former Youth chief SA Vigneswaran, former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam and former Kedah state assemblyman S Ganesan had applied to the court for the injunction which was granted by High Court judge Mohd Ariff Mohd Yusoff this morning.

This would mean that S Samy Vellu, who is MIED chairman and former MIC chief, could not proceed with his plans to add 10 new members into the 38-member MIED.

The MIED held its meeting this morning but insiders say with the injunction, the issue of additional members was not discussed.

Lawyer A Vasanthi, appearing for Vigneswaran in obtaining the injunction, told FMT that the court had to intervene in the matter as the beneficiaries of the MIED were the Malaysian Indian community.

The injunction is effective until March 14, she said.

When contacted, Vigneswaran was elated, saying that the MIED trustees should call for a meeting to withdraw the agenda of increasing new members until an annual general meeting (AGM) or an emergency general meeting is convened.

Loophole in Companies Act

Samy Vellu had initially proposed enlarging the membership of the MIED. This, party insiders say, is to allow the former MIC supremo to extend his term as MIED chief.

Section 129 (1) of the Companies Act 1964 states that no person of or over the age of 70 shall be appointed or act as a director of a public company or of a subsidiary of a public company.

MIED is a company limited by guarantee and since no shares are involved, the Indian community becomes the beneficiary.

It is also due to this reason that MIED has trustees instead of directors. However, this does not make MIED immune from the Companies Act.

The loophole in this section is that it allows the trustees to remain in their position provided they have two-thirds support of the total membership.

Section 129 (6) allows for anyone above the age of 70 to hold on to the position if a resolution was passed at an AGM and consent of the “majority of not less than three-fourths of such members of the company” is obtained.

They can be appointed or reappointed as a director and hold office until the next AGM or be authorised to continue in office as a director until the next AGM.

It is a known fact that Samy Vellu is 75, while nearly half of the MIED members and trustees had surpassed the 70-year-old age limit.

Palanivel supports proposal

Meanwhile, party sources also revealed that current MIC president G Palanivel was also supportive of the idea to increase the MIED membership.

“He had written a letter to the MIED stating that he fully supported Samy Vellu’s proposal to increase membership. The letter also stated that Palanivel was fully aware of the appointments,” said the source.

This is bound to raise eye-brows because the general notion was that Samy Vellu was trying to suppress Palanivel by holding on to the MIED chairman’s post.

“It is not that way. Palanivel’s letter says it all. He fully supports the former president’s move… so there is nothing to shout about,” said an irate party leader, who is also a staunch Samy Vellu supporter.

The source also revealed that out of the 10 new proposed members, seven were existing MIC central working committee (CWC) members.

“The remainder three are the MIC Youth wing secretary, MIC Perak treasurer and a MIC member who is also an educationist,” he said.

“Saying that he (Samy Vellu) wants to appoint those close to him to safeguard the position is wrong. He is only appointing existing CWC members and party leaders… there is nothing wrong to that,” he added.

Samy Vellu is expected to issue a statement later today.

MIED assets include the party’s AIMST University, the Tafe College and several acres of land. The assets are said to be valued at nearly RM1billion.

Meanwhile, the MIED board of trustees in a statement said it regretted the conduct of the three individuals, which only served to prevent senior members of MIC and CWC members from serving in MIED.

“The board of trustees has acted swiftly to apply to strike out this action. The application to strike out the claim is also fixed for hearing on March 14,” the MIED statement said.

It also said that the trustees were scheduled to meet today to consider the application of 10 individuals for membership into MIED.

The applications of these 10 individuals for membership have the full support of the MIC, the statement added.

“However, the High Court has granted the interim injunction to restrain the trustees from considering the application.

“The injunction that has been granted is a temporary order pending a full hearing of the application, now scheduled for March 14.

“Under the circumstances, the board of trustees has adjourned the consideration of the application by the new members to a date to be fixed,” the statement said.

ITS TIME THAT MIED BE RETURNED TO THE MIC. IT WAS MAINLY THE HARDWORK AND CONTRIBUTION OF ALL MIC MEMBERS NATIONWIDE THAT BUILT MIED AND AIMST UNIVERSITY. Dalam sinar harianmelaporkan, kebencian rakyat indonesia semakin memuncak akibat provokasi yang dimainkan oleh media massa di sana. Jabatan Penuntut Malaysia di sana telah menghantar khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) kepada semua penuntut di sana agar tidak melalui Jalan Diponegoro bagi mengelak sebarang kejadian yang tidak diingini.

Ganyang Malaysia slogan yang penah dibawakan oleh Presiden Indonesia yang pertama, Bung Karno, seperti ingin dihidupkan semula pada masa ini.

Semuanya berpunca dari media massa sana yang menyemarakkan semangat kebencian terhadap malaysia. Beberapa isu yang berkaitan rakyat indonesia di malaysia turut dimainkan berulang kali. Antaranya ialah isu Manohara dengan istana kelantan. Sebelum ini pernah rumah kediaman yang disewa pelajar Malaysia di Universiti Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta dibaling telur busuk oleh kumpulan yang berdemonstrasi terdiri daripada sekumpulan mahasiswa tempatan kerana marahkan Malaysia yang difitnah sebagai mencuri tarian Pendet yang berasal dari Bali yang digunakan untuk mempromosikan Malaysia.

Kebencian terhadap Malaysia turut menular ke dalam Facebook. Kumpulan yang menggelarkan diri mereka ‘Anti-Malaysia’ dilaporkan telah mendapat sokongan 10,246 pengguna FB, mereka juga telah mewujudkan 718 discussion topics, 47,367 wall posts, 223 photos, and video 8.

Baru2 ini isu nasional melibatkan 2 negara ini yang hangat di perkatakan ialah tentang gaji minima RM800 untuk pembantu rumah indonesia. Kedua2 belah pihak negara masih lagi mengadakan rundingan untuk memberi kata putus tentang isu itu. Ternyata ramai rakyat malaysia yang tidak senang dengan gaji minimum yang diminta oleh pihak indonesia itu. Jika ini berlaku, kerajaan malaysia akan memutuskan tidak akan mengambil lagi tenaga kerja dari negara tersebut.

Indonesia mempunyai jumlah penduduk lebih kurang 238 juta orang. Adakah ini menggambarkan sikap sebenar keseluruhan rakyat indonesia di sana? Persoalan yang sukar di berikan jawapan.

Mengapa mereka benci sangat dengan Malaysia?
Kebanyakkan perkara yang dibenci oleh mereka adalah mereka menuduh Malaysia menciplak hasil atau seni budaya mereka. Mereka menganggap Malaysia merompak khazanah budaya mereka.

Adakah benar budaya atau sesuatu seni itu datang dari indonesia?
Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapura adalah dari rumpun yang sama. Jadi tidak mustahil ada perkara yang kita lakukan hampir sama di antara negara2 tersebut.

Lebih 1.2 juta rakyat indonesia bekerja di Malaysia, tidak kira lah sama ada masuk secara halal atau haram, mencari duit untuk diberikan kepada keluarga mereka di indonesia.

Two held over commission payments to Pakatan party

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men listed as shareholders of a company which was awarded contracts by the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Their company is alleged to have been used as a front to pay commissions to a Pakatan component party.

The two — a 22-year-old factory worker and a 50-year-old businessman — are said to have handed over to the MACC certain documents allegedly showing money banked into the component party’s account.

Sources said the MACC had identified the contractor who used the two men’s company to bid for contracts and in return he would pay them 10% of the total value of the contract for the use of their licence.

The contractor would then instruct the two men to bank in a certain amount into the account of the Pakatan component party.

The sources also said the MACC’s investigations into alleged abuse of funds by several state assemblymen had gone one step further when their initial probe revealed that another contractor was awarded more than 230 projects in a certain district.

They said the whereabouts of the contractor, who is said to be linked to a state assemblyman, could not be traced and efforts to reach him at his house, office and places where he frequented proved futile.

The MACC wanted to find out how only one contractor was awarded the contracts, said to be worth about RM500,000.

The MACC started investigating several state assemblymen in Selangor last month following allegations of abuse of development funds.

It is learnt that the MACC had visited at least four assemblymen and inquiries are being made on several others.

Sharideen Enterprise is a company set up on 7 July 2008 under the name of Muhammad Liwauddin b Zainal Abidin (No. KP 8704-23-5650-97). Muhammad Liwauddin is a factory worker. While, Sharenna Enterprise is company that started operation on 17 Oct 2008 and is registered under Mohd Jali. b Abdullah (IC No 5912-24-1064-51).

Lee approach them to register a company and promise to secure projects for them. They are offered 10% of contracts, the balance is to be paid to Lee. He will handle the projects and some projects are fictitous. The company must pay a certain amount to DAP Serdang Aman.

The paperwork is handled by Lee and payment approval is by Ean Yong and/or Ronnie Liu. It is the same like how Teoh Beng Hock and Ean Yong process the fake invoice and the fake project paperwork and the money is paid by Selangor State.

When Teoh was found dead, Lee Wye Wing was reported missing and had left for China. He appeared later.

We wonder who the missing contractor with 230 projects. Could it be Wong Chun How? If that so, it mean he got another 146 projects to the 84 projects given in Sg Pelek constituency.

Malacca To Get Hard Rock Cafe

Malaysia is likely to have two new Hard Rock Cafes within two years as the restaurant and bar chain expands its reach into Malacca and Kota Kinabalu.

This will add to the existing outlet in Kuala Lumpur and a new one scheduled to open at the Hard Rock Hotel Penang in the fourth quarter of this year.

Each outlet will see the investment to the tune of RM4 million to RM5 million, Hard Rock Malaysia Sdn Bhd director Tan Sri Syed Yusof Syed Nasir said.

In a recent interview with Business Times, Syed Yusof said he is evaluating potential locations in Malacca and Kota Kinabalu for the new outlets.

"We are confident of the success of these outlets and expect the return on investment to take about four years," he said.

He said the new outlets will have a more modern concept, similar to the newly-renovated Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur in terms of presentation.

Each outlet is expected to have a seating capacity of around 200.

In Penang, the Hard Rock Cafe scheduled to open around the fourth quarter, will have 100-odd seats.

The first Hard Rock Cafe in the country opened in Kuala Lumpur in 1991, and has been a successful venture. The cafe, which can accommodate 220 people, underwent a two-month RM3 million makeover last year. It reopened in November last year and is performing well.

On plans for a Hard Rock Hotel opening in Port Dickson, Syed Yusof said it has been put on hold indefinitely.

The hotel was supposed to be built on a 5.27ha of land in Si Rusa, Port Dickson.

Syed Yusof also operates the 570-room Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the 381-room Concorde Shah Alam and the 338-room Concorde Inn KLIA.

Other hotels include the 18-room Lakehouse in Cameron Highlands, the 34-room Casa del Mar Langkawi and specialty restaurants Saloma Theatre Restaurant and Bistro.

Syed Yusof said he is now busy with the development of 64 bedroom suites and 32 apartments at Casa del Rio Malacca and the RM2.5 billion Four Seasons Place in Kuala Lumpur.

The less than coincidental trumpeting of “missing Indians” in the country’s three leading English papers (Jan 13, 2010) can be read in a number of ways.

One interpretation – the fact that more than 39,000 citizens of India are ‘missing’ in Malaysia – is that this disclosure was a preventive strike by PM Najib during his meeting with a team of Indian journalists. The claim would cleverly distract from the likely questions raised by the visiting Indian journalists on the way that the Malaysian government has been handling problems and concerns of the Malaysian Indian community.

The other is that the disclosure would serve as a welcome distraction to the national furore over the court judgement of the Herald use of the ‘Allah’ word in its publication.

A third interpretation is that we accept it at its face value, which is that the PM would welcome Indian priests and barbers to come and work in the country and for the others to come in as tourists, but that this abuse by Indian citizens is a major concern and issue.

Was the Prime Minister playing to a local ethnically sensitized gallery or was he trying to play the one-upmanship game against a foreign group? Or was he protecting national interests?

Supporters of the PM and BN Government may want to give him the benefit of the doubt by arguing that he has our national interests at heart. I think though that the jury should be out on this matter of government policy on foreigners illegally overstaying in Malaysia.

The issue of foreign workers, especially Indonesians, illegally in Malaysia has long been a major headache. Both in terms of numbers and socio-economic – not to mention political – impact, the issue of Indonesian visitors should have engaged the priority attention of the Government.

Instead we have seen a consistent pattern of official denial and unwillingness during the last 30 years to discuss the issue openly, and to openly come out with the facts and figures so that all stakeholders can provide their views and we can arrive at optimal policies instead of the weak, piecemeal and politically motivated ones that presently exist.

In what was supposed to be substantiation of the PM’s concern on “missing Indians”, data was provided that foreigners misusing their Visa-on-Arrival facility were from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

There was no mention at all of Indonesia. Presumably “missing Indonesians” become too rapidly transformed into “resident Malaysians” and “fellow Bumiputeras” too quickly for the authorities to be able to react.

According to various estimates, there may be as many as several million undocumented workers from Indonesia in Malaysia. This is a number that our normally super efficient Department of Statistics is still strangely unable to verify. How many have become permanent residents, if not citizens, is also hidden from public awareness by the Official Secrets Act.

If the PM was expressing concern on the issue of “missing visitors” in the country, he should have done so many years earlier. Clearly the horses have already long bolted.

We have to agree to disagree on this article. It is EXTREMELY true that the Indonesians are populating Malaysia more that the local Indian community!!! Most of the social or criminal problems are being linked to these INDONESIAN's!!! BUT our Goverment especially the Melaka State Goverment is still assisting the INDONESIANS in many ways!!! Why? Shouldnt we go all out to get the Indonesians out? The Indians dont really cause much of a nuisance....

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — A city church in the leafy Desa Melawati suburb was set on fire at midnight as police warned angry Muslim groups not to protest a controversial ruling allowing Catholic weekly Herald to use “Allah” in its national language section.

The attack on the Metro Tabernacle A/G, an Assemblies of God church in Jalan 4/4C Desa Melawati, completely gutted its administrative office on the ground floor. There were no reported injuries in the midnight attack.

Police have yet to identify the attackers and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack which could be related to anger over the Dec 31 court ruling. The judgment has been suspended pending government appeal.

According to an eyewitness who had just finished a drink at a coffeeshop located directly across the church, three or four persons on two motorcycles stopped in front of the church.

"They proceeded to break the glass panels on the ground floor before pouring some flammable liquid and setting off a fire," said a statement issued by the church.

The church is housed in a three-storey shoplot with the office on the ground floor. Church officials have lodged a police report over the incident.

Earlier in the night, the judiciary website was defaced and later taken offline.

The Metro Tabernacle is not affiliated to the Roman Catholic Church which had challenged a 2007 order to stop using “Allah” to describe the Christian God in the Herald's Bahasa Malaysia section.

The Herald is tightly circulated among the mainly Muslim country's estimated 850,000 Catholics who worship in English, Mandarin, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia.

The Roman Catholic Church had agreed not to object to suspend the judgment out of "national interests" as Muslim groups objected to the ruling and threatened to protest.

The groups have organised protests after Friday prayers at two mosques in Kuala Lumpur today despite police orders not to proceed.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his cousin Home Minister Datuk Hishamuddin Hussein have backed the right to protest within mosque grounds to the chagrin of many who have been previously detained at opposition gatherings.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohamad Sabtu Osman said it was premature to link the attack on the church to the protests over the Allah ban.

''We are still investigating,'' he told the Associated Press. He also urged Muslims not to participate in the planned protests, adding that police would be stationed at mosques to monitor the situation.

Police limit gatherings in public to five people and usually take tough action, including using tear gas and chemically-laced water from water cannons, to disperse protests.

These are tumultuous times for political parties who inhabit the landscape of the Malaysian political scene.

Since 2008 general election, it cannot be denied that there have been profound changes in the way political parties have to strive to become more attuned to the voice of the people as well as their explicit and implicit needs.

Although MIC fared badly in the last general election, yet with challenges also comes the opportunity for growth and change that is needed to evolve and adept to better fulfill the purpose and agenda of the party and nation.

The party has been around since 1946 and part of the reason for its longevity is the ability of the party to re-mould and re-shape itself whenever the need arises.

In this vein of thought, MIC has taken numerous steps to strengthen itself and navigate today's choppy political waters successfully.

After much soul searching it is with quiet confidence and sturdy faith that I believe MIC is on track to become the voice of the Indian community of this country again.

New blood, new ideas

The party has consolidated itself and become more united than ever. New blood with new ideas has been given the opportunity and a strong platform to serve.

The party's last annual general meeting (AGM) and the election results have brought in three new vice presidents and also many new young faces to the central working committee (CWC).

Youthful choices were also made by the president in the appointments for critical positions such as secretary general, treasurer general and information chief.

Besides this, the party has also been very steadfast in reinventing itself from within through various workshops and forums.

The re-branding exercise is going at full throttle and members are being sensitised to change themselves and move towards a people-centric and optimum service performance level to better reach and impact the community in line with the prime minister's call of 'people first, performance now'.

The party is now focusing on bringing the Indian community's grouses to the forefront. The people's needs and aspirations are the topmost priorities of the party and all tools that enhance this aim are continuously being sharpened and bettered.

MIC is thus poised to remain as the voice and conduit of the community to reach the government and fulfill their potential.

Others losing steam

On the other hand, other parties that claim to champion the rights of the Indian community seem to have lost their momentum after a crescendo of false starts.

The Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP) being a case in point. Barely six months old and they are already facing a leadership tussle and severe politicking and infighting.

Whereas the organisation headed by the leader of the Hindraf movement P Uthayakumar hasn't done anything productive or constructive for the community since its formation.

The Hindraf leaders behind the Nov 25 rally have broken up and seem more keen on finger pointing rather than working towards addressing the plight of the community.

Even within Barisan Nasional, Indian based political parties have their share of issues.

The PPP hierarchy appears to be contented with playing musical chairs for the post of president while the Registrar of Societies (ROS) figures out the winner.

The Indian Progressive Front (IPF) has lost direction and motivation since the demise of M G Pandithan. They too are caught in legal battles and leadership tussles.

On the opposition front

On the opposition front, several Indian elected representatives in Selangor have voiced their dissatisfaction with their state government when it comes to the issue of helping Indians.

One PKR parliamentarian has gone as far to say that the state government has lost the support of the vital Indian bloc because of their ineffectiveness in dealing with the problems of the Indians within the state.

Alkisah India di India dan India di Malaysia

BERADA di kota raya tua India, Hyderabad selama seminggu minggu lalu amat memberi kesedaran kepada diri ini. Setiap inci persegi tanah di kota-kotanya dihuni oleh ratusan insan. Setiap kilometer persegi dihuni oleh ratusan ribu insan dan setiap bandar raya di negara keramat itu dihuni oleh jutaan manusia. Dan India ialah tanah bagi 1.2 bilion umat manusia. Angkanya bertambah setiap saat.

Berada di India bererti kita berada dalam satu realiti kemanusiaan yang sebenar. India ialah tanah bagi manusia ramai. Jurang hidupnya adalah antara langit dan bumi. Yang papa terlalu papa, yang kaya terlalu kaya. Yang kaya, tidak pandang ke bawah, yang bawah tetap di bawah.

Kasta, darjat atau keturunan masih diamalkan secara tebal di seluruh India. Ia semacam satu agama. Kasta atas tidak boleh bersatu kasta rendah.

Jalan rayanya haru-biru. Suasananya hiruk-pikuk. Bas, lori, kereta, basikal, teksi roda tiga, kereta lembu, kuda bersimpang siur. Bunyi hon adalah wajib. Pegang sahaja stereng, bunyi hon dulu. Di belakang bas dan lori tertulis `tolong hon’. Tiada siapa marah jika dia dihon. Hon ialah nyawa.

Semasa dalam perjalanan menghadiri makan malam perpisahan di Istana Chowmohalla (dibina pada 1780 oleh Nawab Nizam Ali Khan, Asaf Jah II), pemandu bas yang membawa kami tiba-tiba turun lari meninggalkan bas yang dibawanya. Hilang dalam lautan manusia dan kenderaan. Kami terpinga-pinga. Dua lelaki preman masing-masing memegang submesingan jenis sterling yang mengawal keselamatan kami dalam bas berkata ``jangan bimbang’’. Pemandu tadi sebenarnya turun untuk meleraikan kenderaan-kenderaan yang sudah berpintal di atas jalan raya. Dia bertindak menjadi polis trafik.

Sambil dia menyelesaikan kekusutan itu, saya melihat di seberang sana seorang penumpang turun dari teksi roda tiga yang dinaikinya menolak kenderaan itu yang mati di atas jalan raya. Tiada rasa marah pun di muka penumpang itu yang menolong menolak teksinya yang rosak.

Tiada siapa peduli apa yang berlaku di sekeliling mereka. Polis trafik pun menjalankan apa yang terdaya, tanpa memperlihatkan sedikit pun kekerutan di dahinya. Trafik lalu lintas tetap berjalan lancar, walaupun dalam suasana kekecohan.

Sebelah malam, di tepi-tepi jalan insan-insan tidur merata-rata. Ada yang telah nyenyak membungkus tubuh dengan kain selimut daripada kedinginan kota itu. Yang belum tidur, duduk mencangkung sambil memandang ke satu tujuan yang tidak diketahui.

Hampir dua jam bergelut kami tiba di istana bereka bentuk masjid itu. Di sepanjang dinding tembok istana tertulis tulisan dalam bahasa Inggeris ``Ini tempat suci jangan kencing’’. Kencing berdiri sambil si anunya memancut ke dinding adalah pemandangan umum yang biasa. Mungkin kerana terlalu ramai manusia, tandas bukan lagi pilihan. Awas, setiap pagi berhati-hati berjalan di kaki-kaki lima kerana terlalu banyak jerangkap samar dari isi perut manusia berlonggok di sana-sini. Suasana serupa juga juga khabarnya boleh dilihat di bandar raya lain termasuk di Mumbai.

Sampainya di istana itu, kami dibawa masuk ke dalamnya. Satu suasana antara langit dengan bumi. Kawasan istana lama itu diwarnai dengan lampu-lampu berwarni yang menyenangkan perasaan. Bagaikan berada dalam kisah Hikayat 1001. Tarian-tarian Bollywood dari era 50-an hingga kini dipersembahkan kepada kami. Selesai persembahan kami dijamu dengan juadah Hyderabad tersohor di dunia, nasi beriyani.

Kami makan beriyani kambing dan ayam, tanpa mempedulikan apa-apa lagi. Ia terlalu sedap tanpa boleh ditandingi oleh mana-mana restoran Malaysia, waima Hameediah di Campbell Street, Pulau Pinang mahupun Mahbob di Bangsar.

Di luar tembok sana, suasananya adalah terlalu kontras. India yang penuh warna-warni. India yang penuh dengan drama. Di dada-dada akhbarnya konflik di mana-mana. Di Parlimennya pun haru-biru seperti di atas jalan rayanya juga. Televisyen memaparkan bagaimana seorang speaker dewannya tidak diendahkan oleh ahli-ahli Parlimen yang memboikot sesi soal-jawab. Akhbar Deccan Chronicle dalam karikatur muka satunya (macam Senyum Kambing) keesokan harinya mencuit: Mengapa mereka tidak mahu buat sesi soal-jawab dalam kantin saja, kan di situ tempatnya ahli Parlimen selalu melepak?

India tetap India. Orang India ialah masyarakat yang begitu unik. Jika kita sering tengok wayang Tamil atau Hindi, itulah budaya mereka. Kecoh, kecoh dan kecoh.

Namun, kita di Malaysia pun ada orang India. Kecohnya pun lebih kurang sama. Mereka ini rata-ratanya terdiri daripada ahli-ahli profesional, peguam dan kini menjadi ahli politik. Di Malaysia hanya orang India yang pandai-pandai sahaja yang sering buat bising. Mereka menguasai Majlis Peguam dan kini mereka sudah ramai di Parlimen, bukan mewakili MIC, tapi mewakili DAP dan PKR.

Kerana mereka lantang dan suka buat haru-biru, suara mereka sering kedengaran. Salah seorangnya ialah N. Kulasegaran yang kini memegang jawatan Naib Pengerusi DAP Perak. Beliau lantang mempersoalkan hak-hak orang Melayu.

Katanya, beliau tidak faham mengapa setelah bertahun lamanya masih ada kelompok manusia percaya kepada warna kulit atau penampilan yang lebih tinggi daripada satu kaum lain.

Kita tidak pasti apakah beliau ikhlas dengan kenyataannya itu. Dia tahukah apa yang dia cakap? Tapi yang pasti kenyataannya itu cukup sensitif dan akan membuat kumpulan lain marah. Tapi seperti biasa orang Melayu marahnya tidak lama. Tak apalah. Orang Melayu tidak seperti orang India, walaupun ada juga Melayu yang darah keturunan Keling (DKK), tapi darah Melayu yang lembut banyak menguasai mereka.

Jika di India, mungkin kita akan sentiasa dikawal oleh pengawal bermesingan. Kulasegaran perlu mengambil cuti. Pergilah melawat ke India, dan hayatilah erti kehidupan di sana, hayatilah erti kasta dan darjat, miskin dan kaya, seperti yang saya alami minggu lalu.

Seburuk-buruk Malaysia, inilah tanah tumpah darah kita.

Delegates step on ‘frogs’ at Perak DAP convention (BY THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER)

IPOH, Nov 29 — A banner bearing the faces of the three political “frogs” that caused the fall of the Perak Pakatan Rakyat government was the source of much mirth for DAP delegates arriving for the party's state-level 15th convention here this morning.

The banner was conveniently placed like a doormat on the floor of the entrance into the convention hall at the Tower Regency Hotel, forcing delegates to step on the faces of the three — Barisan Nasional-friendly independents Hee Yit Foong (Jelapang), Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang) and Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering).

The three defectors had left their respective PR parties last February and threw their support behind the BN, causing the controversial switch in government and the impasse that the state is still embroiled in until today.

Some delegates looked uncomfortable at the idea of stepping on the trio's faces and made a big show of avoiding the banner while others gleefully jumped on them, targetting Hee's face above the three.

Several state assemblymen, including Sungkai assemblyman A. Sivanesan and Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Ong Boon Piow, had no qualms over stepping on the banner as they made their way into the hall.

Others like ousted Speaker V. Sivakumar and Perak DAP chief Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham entertained requests from photographers to pose for pictures as they walked in.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who was invited to open the convention, however decided to avoid the banner as he stepped in.

The convention will go on until 6 this evening and will seek to pass resolutions including suggestions on policies for the PR as well calls on the BN government on matters involving politics, the economy, education, religion and the Perak power grab.

Semasa pentadbiran Khir Toyo, pemaju projek I-City telah syaratkan memberi tanah 4 ekar kepada kaum India estet Midland untuk dijadikan Sekolah Tamil.

I-City adalah projek rakan baik dan kroni Khalid Ibrahim. Estet Midland dahulu adalah kepunyaan Guthrie yang telah dijual pada syarikat Lim Kim Hong, I Berhad.

I Berhad dikatakan akan bina sebuah sekolah rendah Tamil yang baru untuk menggantikan sekolah Tamil yang ada yang keadaannya agak usang.

Baru-baru ini Khalid telah mengubah syarat tersebut yang nampaknya lebih menguntungkan pemaju. Baca petikan berikut dari Selangordaily sini:

Sekolah Tamil Ladang Midlands akan kekal di lokasi sekarang di Seksyen 7 di sini dan tidak akan dipindahkan ke I-City sebagaimana dicadangkan oleh kerajaan negeri lepas, kata Menteri Besar Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim. Katanya, memindahkan sekolah itu ke I-City, kawasan pembangunan komersial perdana berasaskan ICT dan bernilai RM2 bilion di Seksyen 7 itu akan menjejaskan usaha pemaju untuk menarik pelabur tempatan dan asing bagi projek itu.

"Jumlah kawasan tanah di I-City kurang dari 100 ekar (40 hektar) dan pemaju tidak semestinya membina sekolah di kawasan itu. Kerajaan negeri Selangor tidak mengamalkan diskriminasi terhadap sesiapa yang ingin melabur dalam pembangunan harta di negeri ini,” kata Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim
Dr Xavier menggunakan alasan tapak tanah sekolah baru tidak sesuai kerana terletak dekat kawasan industeri dan tanah baru diberikan di kawasan yang telah di sediakan untuk kawasan reaksi. Ini bermakna kawasan reaksi yang sudah dipersetujui dikurang 4 ekar untuk sekolah.

Ketua Pemuda MIC tempatan, Saravanan membuat bantahan tetapi dituduh rasis oleh Dr Xavier.

Tanah empat ekar boleh buat banyak kondo. Kalau sesiapa ada hutang bank RM66 juta, boleh bayar sebahagian darinya. SPRM pun patut masuk periksa. Pastikan tidak ada tingkap terbuka untuk Menteri Besar pula bunuh diri.
